Question about Boss TU-12H tuners

Post by Tyler Macy »

I just bought one of these and was wondering if there is supposed to be a light for the gauge. I'm not talking about the little red arrows, but a light ring to light up the needle gauge. I could have sworn they had lights, but my new one doesn't. I just want to make sure mine isn't a crapper.

Thanks

I've had the chance to work on a few of the older units and they did have a small lamp to illuminate the faceplate. They were also of the needle-type tuners. No LED's or such involved.

Don't know about the newer models. I use a Korg DTR-1 and sometimes a Zen-on 331 needle type. The Zen-on has a switchable lamp in it.

I have a TU-12H and it does not have a light for the meter. It's about 6 or 7 years old.

Thanks for the info, I guess mine is OK. But don't you think that a light would be a good idea for dim stages? Especially for steel players who don't always want both red arrows to be on (440). Just my opinion. . .

I've got other tuners that have a light, such as an old Korg AT12, and I rarely ever used the meter illumination light.

Why don't you just take it apart and add a small bulb and wire it up to the 9 volt power supply. -MJ-

I agree with Michael except wire the light to the on-off switch.Use a meter to find a positve+ post with the switch in the chromatic position. The negative- wire goes to any point on the board that is grounded.Buy a 12volt mini-bulb from Radio Shack.

Boss also makes (made?) a model TU121, which is a step up from the TU12H. The TU121 has a light.

Rayman,
If you don't want to open the unit up to wire the lamp to the internal circuit, just wire the mini lamp to a 9volt battery, through a minature toggle switch.tape it to the unit, and place the bulb against the meter glass, with a small piece of tape over it...The meter glass will diffuse the light and give adequate light to read the meter...may not be 'pretty' but it works...RP...'come on in'...
