Fender Amp Question

Post by Rick Collins »

Can anyone tell me if Fender ever made a tube amp with two 10" JBL speakers? I don't even know if JBL makes a 10" speaker.

It seems that this would be a good combination for a Stringmaster guitar, if the amp had enough power.

Many thanks, Rick

Hey Rick I had a Vibrolux which is two 10-inch speakers....and sounded awesome with my Stringmaster....but they were the Fender blue-backs and I don't know if JBL makes a 10" speaker...I've never seen one...but I would think that they do....or did.

Way–Way back in the Mid-'60's, I had a Black Fender Concert Amp. with (4) 10" speakers. I took the (4) Fender speakers out and replaced them with (4) 10" JBL's, thinking that I would really have something going for myself! Well, I did! The Amp. weighed a TON, and sounded good, however; the Concert Amp. was a 40 Watt Amp., and as soon as you ran the volume up, it distorted! {Not the speakers, but; the Amp. itself!} If you can get enough power to drive the (2) 10" JBL's, it should sound fine! I'm not sure if 10" JBL's are still available! I've never seen any others except the ones that I had. "Big John" http://community.webtv.net/KeoniNui/BigJohnBechtels

JBL D110F was the ten inch JBL speaker that fender used. Two in the Vibrolux with two 6L6's for about 40 watts of power.
JBL dosn't make these anymore, but Weber VST makes a "California 10" thats about as close to the old JBL's as you can get.

Alvin is correct, and to think that these great sounding speakers retailed at $66.00 per and carried a "B" discount to Fender dealers.
