Peavey Speaker question

Post by Cartwright Thompson »

Is a Peavey Black Widow Model #1505-DT a good speaker for steel? I have a chance to buy one and I thought I'd try it in my Twin Reverb.

I think Peavey's 1501 is the speaker for steel.

Cartwright, the Peavey Black Widow 1505 model was voiced for 2-way sound systems and not for steel guitar. I highly recommend the 1501-4ohm "shallow basket" speaker for your steel application. The item number to order by is 00027010. Here's a link for the BW speakers from our website;

If you have further questions, I'll be glad to answer them for you. I can be reached toll free in North America at 1-877-732-8391.

Thanks Mike. I thought it might be a P.A. speaker.

Mike,
I recently ordered 2 - BW 1501-4's and wonder what are the qualities of this speaker that makes it a great speaker for pedal steel ??..
Can it be used for anything else ?....Bass ?
PA ??.....Thanks for your time..Sincerely, Jim

James,

Where did you order them from? The link that Mike referenced does not include a 1501 that I can see. I also did a search for that part number on the site with no luck....

There have been two 1501-4 BW's since the early 1990's, ie; 1501-4 and the 1501-4 "shallow basket". There is info on the original 1501-4 here; http://www.peavey.com/support/technotes/misc/blackwidow.cfm

However, there is no info on the Peavey website concerning the 1501-4 shallow basket. However, the facts are that the "sb" was voiced specifically for steel guitar.
