profex 11 troubles

Post by Daniel Gillett »

I have a profex2 that I bought last year, a store demo. I went to use it the other day live and it turns on, but the only sound I am getting is loud popping noises. Has anyone experienced this? I have a tubefex and an additional profex2 that have never given me any problems.

Try to re-initalize it back to factory pre-sets.

I think that pressing the Gobel and Play buttons WHILE applying power will reset the unit. I may be wrong about which two buttons to push,You may want to check your owners manual on this.

Generally, this will take care of most errors and sound problems. Bear in mind tho, that a re-set WILL delete ALL custom patches and settings !!

If the unit hasen't been used in a long time, the battery may be dead.

Thanks for the information. I will try that. The battery is not dead so I hope this is the problem. I don't use it anymore, but would like for it to work so that I can sell it.

That didn't work. The clipping lamp was red before with a pulsating green. Since I reset it to factory settings, lamp is now off, and no sound from left or right outputs. I guess I will need to send it to Peavey.

Thanks

I realize that this is a really dumb question but, Where or what level was the output control knob seting ?? (Located to the right of the out-put jacks) I generally set mine to 12:00 high.

You mentioned that the clipping lite went back to normal after the reset, so that tell me that the system front-end and effects sections are now working O.K.

Bill,
The output is at 12 high. Before as I said it was clipping without any thing plugged into it, did not matter if imput was at 0 or 10.
Now there is no clipping, just no sound at all coming out of the unit, no matter how high input or output is placed. Maybe Mike Brown has a suggestion?

I passed the symptoms by one of our techs and the first thing that he suspected was a leaking battery. Remove the top panel and check for a "fuzzy" liquid that might be leaking from the battery. This needs to be cleaned immediately to avoid circuit damage.

If you will return your Profex II to me here at Peavey, we can restore it to working order. Our labor rate is $36.00 per hour, plus parts and return shipping costs. Our address is;
Peavey Service Center
Attn; Repair Department
412 Hwy. 80 East
Meridian, MS 39301

Please include a daytime phone number and a note of symptoms. If you wish to bill the charges to a credit card, please indicate so with your package. Otherwise, it will be returned to you COD for repair and shipping charges.
