small filter stompbox?

Post by Tom Ensink »

Hi everybody,

I play with my franklin and my melobar lapsteel through one and the same amp (using a Boss Line Selector).

Problem is that the Melobar generates more low frequencies when compared to the franklin. Therefore, I need to cut down the low freqs when I switch to the Melobar.

I have tried the Boss equaliser, but it is not powerful enough. After that I have brought my Focusrite platinum instrument "strip" and preamp to stage, just to use the filter. It worked great!

The only thing, I'd rather not haul around this 19'' stuff only for the filter (I hate racks on stage!). So are there any small stompboxes around which have a low cut filter, probably as powerful as the Focusrite?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Tom, a simple small-value capacitor placed in series with the signal line will reduce the bottom end. Any electronic gear-head could probably install one right in your cord's plug. This is how all passive tone controls work...they reduce or suppress the passage of unwanted frequencies.
