Nashville 400 cutting out

Post by Tony Prior »

I put my Nashville 400 to work last night for the first time since buying it from a fella' out in Texas. It does sound great but towards the end of the 1st set it began cutting out with the compressor coming on big time and not going off at all. Even after power off and power on again.Eventually after having the amp off for a few minutes the compressor did go off. I cut the preamp back to about 3 and put the main up at around 8 or 9. . That seemed to help a bit but after a while the problem returned. IF I put the pre gain above 3 or so the problem was more frequent.
Possible heat related as I did turn the amp off during breaks. The initial setting before the problem began were pre 4 or 5 and post 6 or 7 . Yes, we were playing loud but when the amp was functional it sounded great ,clean and powefull. Any thoughts as I prepare to bring the amp in for service ?

Tony, Check the reverb molex connector. If it has a bad connection you will get that indication. Better yet, the next time it happens turn the reverb down to zero (off) and see if it goes away. If it does, it's bad connections in the Reverb I/O (Molex) connector.

Tony I went through my session 500 and cleaned and tightend all the molex connectors inside and solved my "intermitant" problems.

Tony, try the connector that Jack is talking about. I just went thru this with mine. It deserves some checking out. If I didn't play guitar thru mine once in awhile I would unhook mine all together. Instead I fixed mine.

Open it ( a trick) and GENTLY wire brush the pins in the Molex connectors, then LIGHTLY grease them with DC4 or any good quality silicone grease designed for use in electronics. Use a brass brush, normally found in grocery stores as "whitewall tire" brushes.
