Twin / Peavey

Post by David Ward »

I have a Carter S-10 that I am running into a Twin Reberb and like the sound that I get.

I have the opportunity to buy a Peavey BW115 ext. cab in near-mint condition for $150.00.

My question - does anyone have any experience with this equipment configuration?
Are the lows significantly improved? Is this a good price?

Thanks for the input.

If you use both (the Twin cabinet, and the B/W as an extension speaker), you should notice a small improvement in the lows, and consequently the "fullness" of the sound. The T/R is not noted for it's lows, but it is better than many solid-state amps. The overall power of most T/R's is marginal for steel. You might try just using the 15, and if you like the sound, there's room enough (barely!) to put that in your T/R.

What kind of BW is it?? A bass speaker or a full range?? The current BW speakers that Peavey uses in their steel amps is a model 1501-4 (the -4 is 4 ohms). They did use a 1502 in the older amps.

It's a Bass cab. 4ohms. I had thought of
using it with the 2-12's in the Twin through the EXT. Trying to find out if it would be worth the investment or not.

Thanks,

It may still work. The 1502, that they used in the Session 500's and the early Nashville 400's are now being marketed as a bass speaker. If you know which model BW is in that cabinet you can get the specs from Peavey.

It's either a 15454B stamped framed speaker that we used at one time, or a 4 ohm BW. Either way, you gain low end enhancement by using one or the other. But keep in mind if you overboost or try to get a lot of low end out of the 115 cab, the 12's in the Twin might not be able to reproduce the lower frequencies and possibly fail. Hopefully not. An active crossover would allow each bandpass to operate safely. Just a thought.
[This message was edited by Mike Brown on 26 June 2001 at 01:58 PM.]

Mike, with the reduced power that the Twin speakers will see (when he's using the extension cabinet), I doubt he'll be able to hurt them! Image

Dave...if the speaker and cabinet are in good shape, that's a good price. If it turns out to be a bass speaker...so much the better.

Reduced power can harm a speaker, but I was referring to the lower frequency that the 12"'s might or might not be able to handle.

Thanks to everyone that added input.
I got the cab and it is working fine.
The Peavey with the 15" BW adds a very nice roundness to the bottom. It certainly gives me a better tone at'basement working volumes'.

Thanks again,

David
