Jbl e-140-8

Post by Bill R. Baker »

I have purchased a Peavey Session 400 LTD and
the speaker is a JBL E-140-8. Will someone
tell me about this speaker. Thanks

Well, I guess you know it originally came
with a 4 ohm Black Widow speaker. Ideally
it should have been swapped with an
E-130-4. The one that's in there now won't
quite give the high end projection since
the E-140's are mainly for bass guitar
applications. The fact that it's 8 ohm
will also decrease the efficiency (less
wattage) of your amp. But...if you like
the overall performance of the amp the way
it is...that's all that counts!

Yes, I too believe the E-140 has a bassy sound compared to the E-130. You need a bigger amp to push the E-140 to get all you want out of it.

I would stick with the E-130 for steel. I believe that is the accepted choice.

I had a couple of amps with JBL's one a D-130 , and one a E-130. Both actually the same speaker with different codes. I like their special sound for steel. I always thought it had a nice round bell like tone....al

The JBL E140-8 is an 8 ohm bass guitar speaker. However it is possible that is has been reconed with an E130 kit. I don't know if there is an easy way to verify that other than comparing it side by side with either a new E130 or 140. You might contact JBL and see if they can give you any guidance.
