How to properly hook it up

Post by Chuck Hall »

Would some of you tell how you hook up your gear. For example steel to profexII to Nashville 400. Do you go in to the amp front or loop through the pre amp in/out or in/out of the back of the 400 or both etc.

Posting might make it easier for others that are new at it.

This has been brought up and discussed several times. The "preferred" and Peavey suggested way to hook up a Profex II (or Transtube Fex/Tube Fex) is from Guitar to Volume Pedal to Profex II to the POWER AMP IN on your amp. The reason for doing it this way is the various FEX units are both a preamp and a processor. This is also the way it's connected when you have a separate power amp and speakers.

There are alternates, like going into the normal instrument input instead of the power amp in and running the FEX unit in the effects loop of the amp.

To further Jacks' explanation, by routing the output into the front input, you are using "two" preamps, which increases your noise level. You also are using two different EQ's(the one in the Profex II and the one on the Nashville), and you are strickly setting it by ear at this point. In other words, when you change the EQ on the Profex, you are most likely changing it on the Nashville at the same time.
