Loud Music and Strong Wine" by Justin Trevino

Post by Ricky Davis »

I just played a gig with Justin Trevino tonight and he was kind enough to give me one of his new CD's and I just finished listening to it and I have to tell you.
If you are a fan of Real Country Music in the pure honky tonk shuffle vain; than you have to have this one. Also being a fan of the steel guitar; this one is laced with some of the best honky tonk steel there is.
Jimmy Day and Scott Walls played on a track. Then Rick Price and Jim Loessberg swapped tracks throughout the rest and I'm proud to live in the same state as these guys; let alone, Loessberg lives two streets over from me. Oh BTW neighbor>"DANG GOOD JOB PAL".
I don't review CD's at all simply because I don't really listen to music at all; but Justin is such a heartfelt singer with the very traditional and "ALL OUT" kinda style that just melts my mind. "I love it and love you Justin". I won't even tell you the guest singers Justin has also on this project; just go and get it "Right Now".
If you as a steel player learn every lick on this CD; you will know just about everything you will need to know>"EVER".
Ok; go get it and if you don't like it; I'll buy it from ya.!!!!
Ricky

Ricky,
Boy,I gotta echo everything you said about this album. It's GREAT. I heard him sing at the T.S.G.A.show,this year. Rick Price is the one that turned me on the album. Rick & I go back a "hundred" yrs.(would ya believe 30?)
I haven't seen Rick in over 20 yrs.,so it was a "double hoot". BTW,really enjoyed, finally, meetin' & hearin' you, too.Ya pick yer butt off, pal. Are ya still at the "Top Rail"?

Hey Smiley it was great meeting you face to face too and I was excited that ya'll came out to that gig at the Top Rail. That was just a sit in gig with a friend and not regular; I'm still with Dale Watson right now as we speak> but you know the music business> "it can be anything at anytime".!!
I'm very excited about Justin Trevino and Jake Hooker and those keeping this traditional Country Music alive; and glad you have it and others should get it if they are interested as we are.

I will ad the link shortly but I just ordered this from Texas Music Roundup. I had the pleasure of hearing Justin fill in for Don Walser a couple times and play bass with Cornell. His first album was on my top 10 list for 1998 and the title cut of this album was featured on the Texas Reunion set.

I agree 100%. I purchased this CD while at the Texas Steel show and it is one of my favorites. I had the pleasure of hearing him sing at Big Balls in Fort Worth and Gary Carpenter was on steel. I thought I had died and gone to honky tonk heaven-it was great. I highly recommend this album to anyone.

Mr Postman delivered a copy of this cd to me yesterday. It is indeed a fine example of straight ahead honky tonkin' done up just the way it should be.
Real nice stuff.
Thanks Ricky for recommending it.

On my way home yesterday, KNON 89.3 radio here in Dallas played about six tracks off of this CD. I really loved the steel. Very nice work indeed.

Hello Folks
I play with Justin once in a while and I tell you he is one great singer. I had the honor and pleasure of being part of this album (fiddle). If anyone is interested in this album, e-mail me and I can put you in touch with the man himself. What most people don't know is that Justin is blind. He has his own recording studio at his home where this album was cut. He runs the board and recorders all himself and he gets a great sound. He is great to work with also. I am currently finishing an album at his studio and I had the pleasure of having Rick Price and Herb Steiner playing steel on it,and of course Justin is on bass. I even played steel on two cuts.
Just e-mail me and I will do my best to put anyone in touch with Justin. This is his second album by the way.

I too want to endorse this fine CD. I played fiddle on the title track, which features Scott Walls and some guy named Jimmy Day on steels. Scott Moon and Bobby Flores play lovely fiddle on the other tracks along with the superb steel of Jim Loessberg and Rick Price. I also recommend Justin's first CD, Honky Tonk Nightmare. Justin is an incredible talent who loves and knows real country music as well as anyone, especially considering his tender age (I think he must be pushing 25 by now). Great taste in tunes and a beautiful and powerful voice. Help support the real deal and buy this CD.

As long as we're handing out the kudos, let me chime in (with palm harmonics Image):

Justin, in addition to being the part-time bassist with the Cornell Hurd Band, is the new bassist and front singer for Johnny Bush's band, the Bandoleros. So I get to play with Justin in two different bands. Lucky moi.

Scott Moon, part-time steel player and full-time Sergeant of Police for Southwest Texas State University, is co-lead fiddler (with Ricky Turpin) for the aforementioned Johnny Bush band and is one excellent Tommy Jackson style fiddle man. He also has the most entertaining line of bullsh*t I've ever known in a friend of mine, which we became the instant we met.

Though my memory grows dim, I seem to recall that someone named Howard Kalish played rather excellent fiddle on my latest album, Texas Dance Time!, which incidentally is available from b0b here on the forum, and the proceeds go to support the Forum. I'm not sure if it's the same Howard Kalish, but chances are it probably is.

If y'all get the impression that the music scene in Austin/San Antonio is one big cluster f$%^ with everyone playing with everyone else, your impression would be most accurate. Image

Thanks for the compliment Herb! Yes indeed...your album is a great one! I was listening to it this morning as a matter of fact. Howard played his A$$ off too! Great job by the both of you. And as for Justin...you couldn't ask for a nicer guy and a great singer/bass player. Help support all these guys and buy their albums! You won't be dissappointed!

I just returned home from vacation in time to play my Sat. night gig yesterday. This CD was in the mail and I got around to getting it on the changer this morning and gotta add my 2 cents worth. MAN, this is one fine album.

Herb, here in Atlanta we describe the cluster$%^& you mentioned as "we all play in different bands together" Image
