Surrealism on the Opry

Post by Bobby Lee »

What was that bit Porter Wagoner did at the end of the televised portion of the Opry, with the guy from the Wild Turkey Foundation and the shopkeeper from the mall and the tailor? I couldn't make any sense of it.

It ruined an otherwise great half hour for me. The proper thing would be for Bass Pro shops to buy commercial time.
By the way our cable system just added CMT and they don't have all those maditionel commercials during primetime.
somewhere recently I read where dispute viewership being down 20 some percent, advertising revenues were up for TNN which does not make sense.-----------------

Yeah, Bobby...that had a more than a little "Aubrey Beardsley" quality to it. For a while, I thought I might be the only one who noticed!

Wild Turkey Foundation...do they support the birds, or that high-priced bourbon?

"Organized Confusion" Score one for the demise of the Opry. Is that big body guard there to protect Porter from a wild Elvis type attack from the wheel chair grand ma's? Or do those old Webb Pierce hand me downs have real gold linnings? Tune in next week as Buchanan and Ficsher bring you the latest chapter of "Opry sucks" Starring tba. Don Walser was enjoyable as was Ranger Dougs wild west show, what ever followed was pure crap.

Well, what was that about Porter Wagoner being a "great conservationist"? And that coat with the fish on it? At least the awards down at the Moose Lodge make sense!

I was trying to imagine how SNL would parody it, but then I wasn't sure that Porter wasn't doing a parody himself. I think he's about ready for that padded cell now.

I believe its pressure from the Opry Mills group to try to shine a positive light on an otherwise disasterous debacle known in Nashville circles as "Shopryland". They don't want to have happen what happened in Grapevine, Texas with a similar attempt at a mega-mall, especially with all the people and related businesses that went out of business when Opryland closed. Unfortunately they piicked Porter as their dupe in this crass attempt. Best, Boomer
