Opry Changes,Good or bad?

Post by Joe Casey »

Could it be we have not given the new Management a chance to establish their reasons for changes? ImageI see people who were fighting the changes now soft pedaling and sort of joining the tide. Image Is the old saying if you can't lick em join them, the case here? I for one don't trust the new regime however except for the staff band fireings,The Opry seems intact.Heck if the Members are not fighting the changes ,why should we?

Joe, maybe they are not fighting it as they don't want to be in the same boat as Leon or Joe.

Some of the older members don't do much road work anymore, except an occasional package show or an RV park tour here in Fl.

The release of the band members at the Opry is really no different than any corporate "Friday Massacre" where people get surprise pink slips. Everyone wonders who's going to be next or what is going to happen, but after the initial shock, things settle back down. And it's not the non-productive ones that always get the axe - I had a friend that worked for a well known (Largo, Fl) Communications equipment company that got one of those Friday pink slips and he was doing well and had just landed the company a major $$$ contract with one of the baby Bell's.

John Looks like you and I have the same thoughts sometime. I think rushing to judgement causes more problems. We try to sift through the information we get because it is our only way of keeping in touch with a business we love. And there in lies the key word. "Business".

Jack You may be right on the "running scared" part,A lot of the old timers have little else to look forward too as far as entertaining goes. I have been against just letting them go. I still do not hear a vastly improved staff band,The person who has taken Leons place is just playing rythm,The Drums have not gottten twice as good and there has not been any great advancement to the sound. And Hoot isn't playing any more notes then Joe Edwards did. In otherwords the songs have not got any harder, nor has the music changed. Where did they needed any diferent notes or more of them? With all the Musicians and Good ones around Nashville ,Maybe they ought to rotate more and give all a chance to qualify for the pension their dues have been paying on for years. I know the word share is not in certain peoples vocabulary. Especially when it comes to the Local 257 Pension fund. Look up screwed in the dictionary and you will find it right after Musician.
