Mandy Barnett on "SUNDAY MORNING"
Did anyone catch this segment? I watch this show every Sunday [used to be hosted by the late Charles Kurwalt].
She's a fine singer and sounds more country
than most out there [admitedly ala P. Cline],
but in the segment was lamenting about going
"pop" and changing her singing style to do so.
She opted to stay true to herself, and eventually got bounced from some record label.
Owen Bradley is helping her now. They had some band close-ups and a few on the steelplayer. He looked a little like Hal Rugg,
but I'm not sure. Anyone know who it was?
Also, I emailed "Sunday Morning" today and asked them if they 86'd the 'POSTCARDS' section. At the same time I praised them for the bit on Mandy Barnett, and gave the Forum's web address and invited them to have a look at the real issues surrounding Nashville, Grand Ole Opry, and REAL country
music.
I basically said there is more and interesting things to air on your show right here, than in the continuous opera singers, modern dancers, and jazz players you always
seem to find time for. Get out of Manhattan
more often, I quipped.
I ended up by telling them that it's practically a national disgrace to the GREATS who went before and the ones living now, who painted the REAL country landscape and made these places what they were, to watch the morass the whole industry has sunk to. FWIW

darn i knew this was on but I overslept. i belive hal Rugg was on this album.
I'm glad CBS went back to true country for a few minetes.
However i think it's still a disgrace that Sire etc had no clout to push for grammy nominations.

I did not see the show but some folks have told me that there was a shot of me on there. Also a clip with Hal on the Letterman show. I was also told that the end of the show was a solo that I played on C6th. Anyway I am trying to get a copy so I can see for myself.

Hello Johnny, The band they showed thru-out the segment was the only band in the segment.
The shots of steel were under low-type colored stage lights. I remember 2 shots
more than any others. One was of just the fretboard, and the other was the steelman, but it was a side shot like profile, and the
lighting was such that I had trouble identifying. I just threw Hal's name out here
as I thought I heard once that he was playing either in Mandy's band or on her CD{s].
Anyway, if this will help, here is "Sunday
Morning's" webaddress:

I'm sure you can get a video copy and transcript of every show. FWIW.....Chip
