RIP Rex Allan Sr
Heard from a gal on AOL
Rex Allen, Sr. died of injuries suffered when he fell in his driveway at home and his driver accidently backed over him. Bill Anderson once told Rex Allen, Jr. of his father "If we could hear God's voice, that's what it would sound like." Along with Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, Rex was one of the top Cowboy movie stars. And those who didn't know his music would recognize his voice from the many Walt Disney nature
programs and other documentaries
that he narrated.

One bit of Trivia you may wish to post on the forum: When Jerry Byrd cut "Steelin The Blues" many years ago, Rex happened to be in the studio at the time. And the producer, suggested Rex do a little singing on the recording. It happened and Rex and JB became life long friends. Rex loved JB's playing and used him often in his musical rise to fame. Recordings like "Afraid" and "Bandera Waltz" are among my favorites by Rex of course with the legendary JB on back up.
