Looking for a video of a steel player

Post by Ian McKeown »

Hi all,

A long shot possibly, but I am hoping someone can find me a youtube video. The steel player is an older gentleman, in his 70s or 80s, and he is in what looks like a garage with a handful of others playing old country and (i think) western swing. I also think he is either playing a blue guitar, or maybe wearing something blue. I remember the playing being so good, I'd like to see it again if it rings a bell for anyone.

Best
Ian

Thank you Michael and David, and apologies for not seeing these replies sooner. They don't quite match what I remember (or made up in my head lol) but they're both new to me and greatly appreciated!

Joseph, that's not it but I am always amazed by Kayton Roberts' playing.

Scott, this is a great one, definitely have tried to steal some licks from it.

Thanks for sending guys, I wonder if i just dreamed the video I think i saw. I often save my favourite steel vids on youtube, so it's possible I did that but it got taken off the site at some point.

Re: Looking for a video of a steel player (edit: it was Mac Atcheson)

Post by Ian McKeown »

Just to follow up on this thread, Doug Beaumier posted on his instagram about Mac Atcheson and that jogged my memory. I found a thread that Bill Ferguson made here on the forum where he linked a youtube video that he shot of Mac that has since been taken down.

Does anyone know of any recordings that Mac played on, or anywhere to find more of his playing?

Hey Ian,
Mac did not do any recordings except in the early years, local only. Nothing that was released.

I have a couple of videos of Mac in the "Back Room" that I would be happy to share with you privately. Just drop me an email: bferguson1947@gmail.com

The video you mentioned was removed when the SGHOF got greedy and shut down my YouTube site in late 2023. Yuck. Google will no longer allow me to have a YouTube Account. I am doing a little posting on my wifes page, Linda Ferguson, but nothing from the ISGC.
