Unplugging amp speaker wires

Post by Keenan Friday »

I want to unplug the speaker wires on my nashville 400 so that when I record through my amp I'm not hearing the amp in the room but only through my headphones.

Will this hurt my amp or anything like that cause it to blow a fuse or worse?

Thoughts on if I can do this with good results hooked up to a usb audio interface?
Thanks

No problem with a solid state amp like the Session--used to do it all the time...now a tube amp is a whole 'nother story....

If you record direct with the amp using the preamp out, you should be able to turn the Master Gain to zero and it still work. That is the way I do it with a Nashville 112 when I record direct.

Whether you get good results is subjective. Some will only record with a mike. I do it both ways in my home recording studio - just depends on the song or what I want.

Can you put the amp in a different room with a mic on it and listen to it either through your reference monitors or headphones?

That's how I like to do it.

I've heard the best room to put the mic'd amp in is the bathroom. Seriously.
