Interface for Home Recording?

I'm buying the above Mac. I was wondering what you guy's use for an interface with Garageband? I'm a complete newbie to digital recording.

The Apogee interfaces are great. Depending on how many inputs you need the Duet or Quartet have good Apple integration, are very stable and sound great.
I currently own a Quartet and it's great. I have owned RME (sounded good, but didn't integrate as well and was not as stable), PreSonus and Mbox (both much cheaper but nowhere near the sound quality).

My advice:

Do your homework and shop around.
Buy the interface that will accommodate the way you like to work (this goes for your DAW as well).

If you should decide that the more expensive unit sounds the best to you, it's within your budget and you absolutely can't live without it, then buy it.

If you can't afford the more expensive unit, there's no shame in owning an M-Box, Presonus or whatever other interfaces might be out there.

As I said in the other thread about interfaces, don't get too bogged down with internet discussions about gear.
Just have fun with whatever you buy.
In the end, it's going to be about how well you perform and how good your songs are anyway.
Nobody's going to give a rat's ass about what kind of interface you recorded with...except the gear junkies. Period!

Thanks Rick...I read many great reviews on the Presonus used with Garage Band.....Pretty fair price as well. I may go that way to start....I agree also that the art really isn't in the equipment..

I tend to think the computer is going to be great ...I may get one like it myself . The interface could be from Presonus or even an M-box. I do think that after you get started , you may want to venture into Pro-Tools ,,, you can get some of the older versions like 8 or 8.3 for less than $40. and no I-lok (at least to start with) . If you do get an M-box , I would get a Presonus Faderport. $129. I get that stuff from Sweetwater , because of the free support ,,,and believe me ,,,I need it!

The Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 is a popular two channel USB unit.

There are also Thunderbolt Interface units but the prices tend to be more.

Sweetwater is a good place to look for MAC interfaces.

I second that on the Presonus Faderport. It is a wonderful device and works great with other Presonus gear, especially Audiobox and Studio One. I also agree on Sweetwater. They go above and beyond.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice guys....Yes, I did get the computer and I did order the PreSonud Audio Box to get started. I do have an older version of Protools but I'm gonna' give this new upgrade of Garageband a shot first. Seems pretty amazing..

I think you will be pleased with the Audiobox.
I realize I've said this before in other threads but Studio One really is a very good DAW to work with.
The Artist version is included with your Audiobox.
I'd recommend giving it a shot and see what you think of the work environment.

**Forgot to mention that I agree with what's been said about Sweetwater.
Their customer/tech. support is fantastic. **
