There are also some clips from "The Last Waltz" on YouTube. Just search for "The Last Waltz". Sitting here watching them now and trying to hold back the tears. I started life out as a drummer, and Levon was one of my top 5 favorite drummers. He and "The Band" will never be forgotten.

Back in the early 70's, I was pretty much fed up with the dominant popular music culture. It was mostly drug inspired dribble. Thank God there were a few groups like CCR, Commander Cody and The Band.
I will miss Levon. He was a wonderful talent and will never be forgotten.

Yes Levon will be missed by many. He was a great talent. He put his heart into every song I ever heard him sing.
And he did not bad at acting especially when he was in Coal Miner's Daughter movie with Sissy Spacek
He was playing Loretta Lynn's Daddy.
My condolences to his family & friends.

Most of us will remember that Leon Helm had another great movie role. He was the narrator in the great film about the early days of the Mercury Space program, "The Right Stuff"

Levon also played the part in the film as Col. Jack Ridley. Sam Shepard (as Chuck Yeager) would ask prior to a test flight: "Can you spare me a stick of Beemans (chewing gum), Ridley?" .
'"Fair enough. " would be the answer. Levon, indeed, had the "right stuff" in so many way. Fortunately, we still have his musical and film contributions. stevet

Was he not also playing the part of her father in that film about Loretta Lynn?
The only way to describe the Band and Levon is "Real American Music".
He will be missed.

"He was my bosom buddy friend to the end, one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation. This is just so sad to talk about. I still can remember the first day I met him and the last day I saw him. We go back pretty far and had been through some trials together. I'm going to miss him, as I'm sure a whole lot of others will too."

The Band was always my favorite Rock and Roll group and I heard them play in 1973 at Watkins Glen. It was pouring rain and yet they played through the rain.

Great musician, great singer. He did not get the financial reward he should have. But we all benefited from his wonderful spirit.

Levon was the first drummer that I remember that also sang. And what a singer. Love his voice. He was pretty much great at everything he did. Singing, acting, drumming, mando, guitar, story telling, etc... I'll miss him...RIP........

I worked with Levon Helm in the movie "COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER". He was a pro and friendly man. I respected him very much as a musician and a person. Dave Thornhill

I have a friend near NYC that was playing bass with Levon lately...she said she always had a wonderful time with him,,,,I really dig his version of the Dead song, Tennessee Jed!....RIP Levon...!
