Dropbox Question
Does anyone know if it's possible to actually Download to your hard drive a file received via Dropbox link? When I send the link to myself and click it in the email I receive, I can play the file but cannot seem to download it to keep it on my HD.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

I heard from someone tonight that if both parties have Dropbox, then they can download the files from the links sent. (But it didn't work that way when I sent it to myself...hmmm...)
Cal, if you have Dropbox, please send me a link to a file (jim-at-jimcohen-dot-com) and I'll let us know if I can download it, or just play it.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, a link is not a file.
This is what I do to get the file on my computer HD:
I paste the link in my Opera browser address bar.
The browser will display the file according to the file type. So a text file will display as text file.
Then I just go to Opera>File>SaveAs and save it wherever I want it.
If it is an MOV file, it will open the Opera-Quicktime-plugin to play it, but I don't wait for it to play out.
I just use save-as again and it is done.
I also tried it in Firefox. It works the same.
Here are some links to try:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47513814/How%20 ... folder.txt
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47513814/MktgOn ... domain.mov
Good luck

Dropbox to me acts just like any other directory on my computer. The directory (and files) reside on my hard drive and sync thru the cloud to any other device I have signed in (iPhone, another computer or an iPad). But I have created a Dropbox account, and installed the software on my machine (Mac).Jim Cohen wrote:So what exactly do you drag to your Dropbox? Do you single-click on the link in the email that some sends you and drag that link into your dropbox? Or...?
What I _think_ may be confusing the issue is whether or not you have _installed_ Dropbox on your machine versus simply created an account and have logged into the Dropbox site. Dropbox users can email files to other folks and you can allow others to _link_ to files on one's Dropbox in the cloud.
Hopefully, this isn't more confusing
