Cds won"t play

Post by Eddie Lane »

I have had this problem since I started up my computer based home studio a few years ago. When I burn a CD of a recording that I have done it will play on some players and won't play on others. It will stop in middle of a song or studder and stop and start again, etc. I've tried burning at different speeds, used different brands of blank CDs and nothing works. HELP!!! :x

First, the burning speed should be kept to a low speed to be compatible with all audio CD players. I use 8X as my audio CD burning standard. I have PATA (IDE) interface drives and they will go down to 8X. Newer PATA interface drives will only go down to 16X. Discs burned at higher speeds will skip, not play etc on older audio CD players. If it's a newer player that will also play MP3 discs these usually do not have problems with higher burned speed discs.

I do a lot of audio CD burning, either from my studio (I have Sonar X1 Professional) or for orders from local singers and musicians. I have a bank of 5 USB connected PATA drives and can burn 5 discs at a time. I only use Taiyo Yuden CD-R Blanks that are ink jet printable and print the labels using an Epson printer (NEVER use paper labels).

I use Nero for burning CD's (Nero Burning ROM). I use "Disk at Once" (Session at Once) when I burn. I also use the verify after burn function. Nero Burning ROM allows me to enter the ISRC codes for the songs, and burning disc at once will write the CD Title, Artist and Song Titles on the discs.

Back to some possible problems, Along with the burn speed, do not use CD-RW discs and avoid Memorex brand of discs as I and others have had various problems with Memorex. One of the disc gurus on the Dell help forum also recommends not using Memorex. The Taiyo Yuden discs that I use are the ones that I read about most often being used in recording studios. I also shut down other running programs when I burn audio CD's to avoid any potential conflict. Also make sure you are using the "Buffer Underrun" Protection (also called Burn Proof Technology).

Finally, What program are you using to burn the discs and I assume you are using wav files for the audio CD's.

Jack,

Thanks for the information. I am not much of a computer wiz on some things. I am using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro for recording. It has a built in burner which is Pyro Audio Creater LE. I have been burning the CD on it and then putting that onto my music in windows player. Then I burn off of the files that are stored in there with the Windows Media Player. When I burn on the Pyro Audio Creater, it shows "TEXT" by the track information on the player in my vehicle. I am not sure what that means.
I will try some of your suggestions. Thanks again.

I've used Pyro and I wasn't happy with it.

I have the full Cakewalk Sonar X1 recording program. When I have everything as I want it on a song, I "export" the song as a standard wav file (16 bit 44.1Khz).

I suspect the program you have will do the same thing.
