CrossOver Mac and other apps to run Windows beside Max OS 10

Post by Bob Martin »

Hi Mac users, I have a MacBook Pro that I've been successfully running Windows 7 Ultra on for 6 or 7 months. It's stable but as anyone knows that uses Bootcamp to run Windows 7 on an intel Mac knows that not only do you have to reboot to use windows but there are a few PIA's when running Windows this way. One of them is very poor control of your Mouse/Track Pad pointer and a few other pains but still it's livable. The main pain is rebooting.

So I know of at least 3 different apps that will allow you to run windows within Mac in a separate window and I have heard good things about Parrallels Desktop and another app I believe is called Fusion ware that might be wrong but it's close away.

Well I've been reading about another app called Crossover Mac and so far from what I've read it sounds pretty good and you don't have to install a copy of Windows.

So if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to run Windows along side Mac without rebooting please help me make a decision. Thanks

Bob

I am affiliated with Parallels and have heard lots of good things about that program. However, you do need a licensed copy of Windows to install into Parallels. You can buy a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from Tiger Direct, for under $100.

Once installed and activated, Windows becomes a virtual application that runs within the Mac OS, or as a separate screen, on its own. Files can be dragged between the Mac and Windows.

You must have a sufficient amount of RAM to run both OSes, when running any virtual operating systems.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Wiz, I've got a licensed copy of Windows 7 Ultra actually it's already running thru bootcamp on this computer. and I have 4 GB of Ram some vendors say my MacBook Pro will take 8 GB but I think 4 GB should be plenty how about you? Do you have any coupons for purchasing Parallels of course I mean a legit copy :-)

You are the 2nd person to recommend Parallels. Thanks Wiz!

Bob;
I looked but couldn't find any applicable discount codes that are in effect at this time, or have been in a long time. If you are still interested in buying the program, here is a link to my Parallels affiliate page.
