editing and burning from a movie dvd

Post by Bill Myrick »

I have a dvd of a movie that runs too long ( over two hours) to copy onto a regular 120 minute dvd blank. Can I load the movie into my computer in some place and edit it down to less minutes then make a dvd of that ? What programs, how to, etc. Help appreciated . Bill.

FWIW: Why shorten the movie? It should fit on a dual-layer DVD. HTH.

Michael:
I wonder if my stand alone dvd copier would copy it on a dual layer ? When I try to copy it now on my regular 120 minute cd's it says not enough room . I have no knowledge of this as you can tell. Thanks for the info.

DVDFab (and most of the other DVD copying software) will copy bit-for-bit the original to the new disc. If needed, it will also compress the original to fit to a smaller disc. If that's done, it will tell you the compression rate. There's a 30-day free trial that will work for you. You can buy later if you like it or just uninstall it if you don't.

That sounds like your copier can read the original. The documentation should tell you if it can write to dual-layer media. If it doesn't, I'd say buy a small pack of discs and give it a try. You can't lose, you'll find a use for those DVDs sometime -- even if it's just target practice :-)

My PC is kind of old and I couldn't find any info on whether or not the burner would handle dual-layer so I just gave it a try and it worked. That makes me think that the hardware capability has been around for awhile. HTH. Good luck.

I just talked with Sony Techs and they assured me my duplicator will indeed copy dual layer but most of the blanks I find are +RW I recall someplace in my player literature that it prefers -RW but the tech allowed any house player that plays the original movie should also play the copy on a +RW disc. We'll see--I got some coming. Thanx guys.
