Platform upgrade

Post by David L. Donald »

Well I was doing construction stuff this fall,
but my most recent builder passed on suddenly
and I haven't gotten building back on the menu yet.

But I did finally bite the bullet and upgrade hardware
that had been back burner'd for too long.

So I just added a Mac Pro running 10.6 Snow Leopard.
2.66ghz single quad core, 3 gig of ram, going to 4 soon,
and 2.2 terra-byte of discs, so far,
Will likely be 5-7 terra-bytes when I am done.

A Motu 828mk3 interface is on the way,
and I will likely get a 2408mk3 PCIe later in the spring.
My MTPAV will still work and Digimax / Octopre with assorted preamps
Have the drum pad system X5 Korg and a M-Audio-88 stage piano.
Enough with all the software synths n samplers.

My Protools is way past it's upgrade path
and running current OS and new apps is better
than being locked into one platform for the time being.
I still have the Protools anyway.

I am migrating lots of samples and sounds from the older system
and the learning curve for;
Logic Studio, Battery, Abelton Live, Melodyne,
Philharmonic, Acoustik Piano and then the
coming upgrades of Digital Performer and MachFive.

Lots of brain fatigue... cycling through each for
a time and then the next one...
Too much time butt in chair.

I have some dance track people who came in and
were happy with some work, but wanted newer apps,
so I made a move in that direction. Back on the upgrade path again.
DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!
