Steel at National Folk Festival

Groups featuring steel at the National Folk Festival held in East Lansing, MI on August 11-13 include BR5-49, Johnny Bellar and the Calvin Cooke Sacred Steel Ensemble. Admission to the festival is free.

BR5-49: Sat 8/12 7:30 pm, Sun 8/13 1 pm and 5 pm.

Calvin Cooke: Sun 12:45 pm, 4 pm.

Bellar: 1 pm Sun.

There will also be a "Slide Guitar Traditions" workshop on Sun at 3 pm featuring Cooke, Don Herron (BR5-49), Dobroist Johnny Bellar and blues slide player Louisiana Red.

I'll be emcee for both of Cooke's sets and BR5-49's 5 pm set. Please say hello if you are there.

It's a shame Lansing is so far from Los Angeles. BR-549 is a lot of fun to watch and listen to. I first saw them opening for Bryan Setzer at the Greek Theater last year. If you have not seen them before you have a real treat in store.
