Backwards PSG solo

Post by Matt Steindl »

I have done lots of backwards piano(ala Moby) and backwards guitar solos(ala Revolver). Just seeing if any of you have gone the psychedelic route and gave this a try w/ PSG? If I get some time in the next week, I will give it a shot and let ya know.

Don't bother. I've tried it and no matter what I play, on either neck, when you play it backwards it says "Paul is dead".

Did this quite by accident back in the '60s...while playing my 1/2 track tapes on a 1/4 track recorder. Everything I played sounded like..."shaP-whaP-slaP". The slow chord and note buildups punctuated by loud stacatto endings sounded like $#!&. Might work okay if you left out the volume pedal, though. Image

Yeah, the magic of this recording trick is the reverse attack. I figure if you soften the attack w/ a volume pedal the magic would be lost.

Duh!!!! All I had to do to test it was go to Cool Edit and select a PSG track, highlight it and reverse it.

The results???? It was a cool textural effect, but using frets was more cool as a solo sound. Granted, I didnt really have it set to match the mix, but I might still try again from scratch this wk.end.

I will let you know how it sounds.
