Wireless Guitar Systems

Do any of you guitar players use a wireless system for guitar? If so, what is a good brand and price range? What should I stay away from.

Larry, for several years I used a Shure Guitarist, which is a full duplex system which I would rate as excellent. Half duplex systems may cause drop out due to locations and buildings etc... It used a 9V battery in the transmitter which had ok life, at least 1 /gig if you turn it off at the breaks. Also before purchasing be sure to check the freq. of the one you are buying so that it it does not interfere with other wireless systems that other band members or singers may have . These units sell new for around $275, I sold mine used for $200. I would buy another in a minute if I thought I would use it often. PS; I used it for Bass and Acoustic guitar as well, the receiver has a volume control on it so it can adjust the output level.

Tony, they have come down in price a lil bit. As a promo, I can get the Shure for $200 and it is full diversity. Do you recommend UHF or VHF? I'm the only guy in the band that will be using wireless.
What about Samson? They are an extra $100 and don't have a body pack. They use a small transmitter that plugs directly into the guitar. It was recommended that I go with Samson from one dealer, then another dealer said he had used Samson and had problems with it and would not go back to it.

I tried a wireless in the early 90s for my Tele. It was a mid priced well known brand.

I gave it back after one night. It couldn't handle my Volume-Swell technique. That's when I move the guitar's volume control from zero to full with my pinky, while playing a chord or bend. The sound is similar to Steel swells.

The wireless cut on and off way too fast, like a Noise Gate. It couldn't do those smooth swells.

Maybe technology is better now.

Larry, I'm not certain but I think the freq. of mine was in the 195 MHZ range, does that sound right ? It's been several years.

Full Diversity, thats what I said, not full duplex, thats a house I think.

I used a Sampson for 4 years. There are some pros and cons. On the good side- you lose no tone it is far better than any cable set up available. Clearer and the top end is undisturbed. Also- I loved the freedom. I am kind of a hot dog and loved running around unfettered. BUT- Batteries are expensive. And when some of the remotes are switched off, it make a nasty loud hiss. VERY LOUD. The attack on this unit is very sensetive (that's good- no problem with swells. You can have my samson for $125. I'll pay shipping.
