Fender Mandolin

Martin, the serial # on my Fender mandolin is 00401. I don't know the model # but I suspect the previous owner picked the snot out of it cause there is a cigarette burn directly beneath the strings on the peg head. I'm not familiar with the model # you're inquiring about and I assume you are making reference to a four string electric mandolin. A few masters on this instrument to check out are Johnny Gimble, Ricky Scaggs, Sam Bush and if my memory is intact, a guy from the New York area, Andy Stateman. Please pardon me if I spelled anyone's name wrong.

thanks for your reply. In fact, this model is new on the market. It's an 8-string electric costing around 350 $. No store in Berlin carries it so I thought someone of you guys might have had their fingers on it yet.

I also noticed and have a slight interest in that new Fender mandolin. I recently saw one in my local Sam Ash store. I didn't have time to plug it in and play it. But it looked pretty good. Looks like a solid body with hollowed out chambers and the arched top with F holes and the cutaways. If you want, I'll drop over there and really check one out for you. Email me if so.

I have a 1961 or 62 Gibson E.M. 150. I changed the strings from e.a.d.g. to a.d.g.c. I added a gibson es 335 bridge,instead of the wood bridge. This is the way Johnny Gimble,Snuffy Elmore has theirs set up. In fact Snuffy set mine up when he was in Branson playing for Mel Tillis. It is the neatest thing you ever played.I love it. Gene

For the money you'd spend on a Fender, I'd buy a Kentucky brand all-solid wood mando. Sure, they're foreign-made, but so are the Fenders. However, I don't think the Fender's are all-solid wood. The most you'll get with a Fender is maybe a solid top, but most Fenders are made completely of laminated wood.
