Except for 1956 when a single was included in the stringmaster class. In 57 it was relabeled a deluxe.

Actually, Fender never called the single-neck guitars "Stringmasters". According to this Fender catalog page posted previously by Michael Lee Allen, it was a deluxe single neck Fender steel guitar with "many Stringmaster features".

You could have a Stringmaster with your choice of two or three (and for some years, four) 8-string necks.

Personally, I wouldn’t have done anything to that guitar. It’s in great shape for something over 50 years old.

Thanks for posting that catalog page Russ. So, at least for that year, they called the single neck Deluxe 8 a String Master guitar. Interesting that they chose a picture of the discontinued 26" long scale as the two neck Stringmaster. Not unusual to see those kinds of inconsistencies in music catalogs.

So now we can argue about the difference between String Master and Stringmaster!
