Nice to meet you, Jim.
Now you know someone who uses a TurboRat.
The Turbo model was designed to accommodate guitars with active electronics. I use a Hilton pedal and have both a 70s vintage original Rat and a Turbo. I prefer the Turbo myself -- just a little easier to dial in both the tone ('filter') and distortion -- FOR ME. I like two different sounds -- the sound of a Deluxe or Princeton just about to break up and a little more buzzzzz. Both of these sounds are easy to find on the Turbo, especially when I use the Hilton pedal.
Your mileage may vary.

I use the second channel of my Mesa Maverick amp, or the lead channel of my Mesa V-Twin rack preamp. The V-Twin is cool in the way that you can blend the two channels for a mix that has just enough edge to it.

Hey Bobby, I used to have a v-twin once upon a time. I liked it alot. One night someone's insanely jealous wife decided she was going to come in the club carrying a loaded deer rifle and discuss her husband's infedelity with him. In the process of ducking for cover, I knocked over my beer and the entire contents of a fresh bottle of Miller Lite poured into the v-twin. It never was the same after that, so I got rid of it.
Later,
Earl

Earl

I currently use a Danelectro Daddy-O, it kind of comes close to what I´m looking for, but is still not quite there. Many different shades of distortion, though, when I play a lot of rock tunes it´s certainly useable. I love the sound of the old Bosstones, but first they´re hard to find and second, I understand they´re not very reliable; if it should break, I´d be pretty stuck over here since I´m not an electronics expert. I´d like to find that stompbox reissue.
