Marty, I just walked in the room where my husband was practicing and told him about your post. He chuckled under his breath and said "I'm practicing right now".

Are there other players (other instruments) on this video, or is it a steel guitar duet? Not that I care, as long as the other players don't get in the way of these two great steel players. Image

I've never heard Tommy White play live, but the little pieces I hear on TV are among the most innovative pedal steel parts I've ever heard. I'm really looking forward to this video, as Lloyd Green is also a great innovator and one of my all time favorites.

I envy you being able to listen to him any time you want to!, mistakes and all! Image

I think this tape will be something any steel player will be glad to have in his collection. Not often you get to be able to watch two of the greats just sit down and turn it loose. I know I am looking forward to it.

I read something, one time, that stated,"It's best to keep your mouth shut, and let people think you're stupid, than to open it,and remove all doubts!" Image

Another similar "slogan","A closed mouth, gathers no feet!"

Here's another one:
Engage brain before putting mouth in gear!

Bob: This video features Tommy and Lloyd only. The other players don't get in their way at all. :-) I know you'll love this one!

Tommy White get in the way? Thats like saying "Buddy Emmons your feel and note selection for Be-bop needs work! Absurd.
By the way Tommy, you should do the same
thing on the C6 with Buddy Emmons, Upright Bass, small Jazz Drumkit, and 2 of the best C6
players ever. I'll wake up soon! Greg
[This message was edited by Greg Derksen on 13 February 2001 at 08:05 AM.]

Marty, I first heard Tommy White in St. Louis
around 1997-98. It was the 4 hr jam session
off the main room. It was Jeff Newman, Hal
Rugg, Tommy and Paul Franklin. I was new
and Impressionable. Everyone took a break in each song. It felt like Tommy was the only one on the stage. He was that good.
[This message was edited by Steel tryin on 13 February 2001 at 08:31 AM.]

Just listen to the clips on TW's site. All are great, but I especially like the Rudolph solo.

http://www.tommywhite.com/listen.html

After listening to those Christmas solos, I am ready for a Tommy White Christmas instrumental CD! How about it, Tommy? The logical title for the recording would be "A Tommy White Christmas."

Who is Tommy White? The absolute most "with it" steel player today! If Buddy Emmons is the god of steel guitar, Tommy is the messiah!

Boy, It really hurts me to see anybody trash another Steel Player, Ain't NO way I would have made such a statement (Get in the way) about another player, even if I didn't know them or not. Both Tommy and Lloyd are livin' walkin' legends of our time.

I purchased the video last night at the NTSGA meetin' and both Tommy and Lloyd pulled off one of the greatest sets I heard in years. I attended the Bell Cove (NTSGA) Superjam the nite they did the video and true to form, Lloyd and Tommy showed what professional players they both are, swapping off on parts and just seamless combination of duets. The band behind then didn't miss a lick either. Altho they said this was done as a E9th jam, I can forsee some of us using it as a instrutional tape, the fills and song selections could not have been more geared for us wantabe players.

(BTY) Teresa, You did a super job on produceing the tape,

Thanks for Music......

Being ignorant of who Tommy is, in this day, displays the mushroom syndrome but to make such an insensitive remark about "getting in the way" might suggest a too-tight fitting hat, oxygen starvation, artery blockage to the brain or any number of problems. We don't need to fear Mad Cow disease because we haven't wiped out, Hoof-in-mounth disease yet. GW

Ok, let's get this straight.
I'm not a country music listener or fan.
I didn't know who Paul Franklin was until I joined this forum.
I listened to Tommy's clips on his website and I think he's FABULOUS!
I'm buying the tape and I know I'll love it.
My comment was a jest.
Lloyd Green was my hero early on and he plays a unique style.
I didn't mean to show Tommy any disrespect.

Now, for those of you who wish to pass judgement on my forms of speech, adjust my attitude, or have any other snide remarks to make, come on over to Off Topic and I'll set you straight so quickly your head will spin. Let's just keep it off this particular thread, ok?

C'mon Guys! Marty and Tommy have exchanged emails and all is cool. Marty's comment was, I feel, misinterpreted. In remembering from previous posts that Marty has made, he really "digs Lloyd's playing. Let's give Marty the credit he deserves in knowing that Tommy, who he realizes is a great picker: proven by the comment that he knows he is the staff steel guitarist on the Opry. I caught the humor and evidently, Tommy did too! Do we not all fall into the catagory of: "Those who live in glass houses...?" It's not right to hammer an individual just because he has a preferance in who he would like to watch and listen to the most. It was a joke! Get it! Lighten Up!!

I am always reluctant to post a reply on issues of this nature. However, in this instance I think it would be irresponsible not to rectify and defuse this matter.
I understand Marty Pollard's position. Marty not being familiar with me, would give cause for inquisition, as I am not familiar with him or his work either. However insubstancial
his query, I feel there is a deserved response. Yes, I found his post to be humorous for reasons none other than the obvious. Realizing humor may be multiplex, I accept Marty's humor. I did not appreciate the lack of respect and the denigration of his reference to The Whites "the old man and two girls". Although, there is no lineal descent, they are considered family in our household and are also considered to possess an unlimited well of talent, as proven in the newly released George Clooney film, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou".
I assure everyone that I am not "in Lloyd's way" in our recently released video venture.
Lloyd Green shines through like the bright star he is, throughout the entire 60 minute video.
Marty, back to the humorous side, as you say you enjoy. A wise man once told me "there's one on every horse".

Hey Jim....

No, it ain't .... Its Black and White. (Black cassette tape cartrige in a white box)
Also with a good blurb attached to the case that can be removed and has a good photo of the players.

Hey there Bob Knight.... Sorry I missed you at the NTSGA meetin' the other night. I guess my eyeballs are failing me more.

Marty... All is forgivin' on my part too, I sometimes forget there is other forms of music than Country. And I too, have been known to stick my foot in my mouth, right up to my kneecaps,

Anyway, One heck of a tape and as others are seeing it the same as me, The close-up stuff makes this a great instructional tape. (double your moneys worth)

Bob, sorry its taken me so long to answer you. They have a wonderful backup band. Hoot Hester on rhythm guitar, Dennis Crouch on bass and Rick Vanaugh on drums. These guy make up part of the band called "The Time Jumpers" a western swing band here in Nashville. They all did a superb job backing up Lloyd and Tommy. They had no rehearsal and did a wonderful job.
Thanks,
Teresa
