Enhancer, anybody using one?

Post by Gary Walker »

An interesting addition to our amps is the Enhancer and was wondering if anyone here has one and what amp are you using. I see them on the stage at the Opry and figure they must do what the name implies. The idea sounds feasible and makes sense if they indeed do as advertised.
I have a new Webb 614-E two piece on order and may invest in this extra piece as sometimes we need all the help we can get, thanks, Gary.

I know the bass player from Spinal Tap was using an "enhancer".

I believe the Enhancer lets you 'go to 11'
It also puts armadillos in your trousers
;)

All seriousness aside, I'd be interested in knowing what an Enhancer is. I'm not aware of a product with that name. What exactly does it do? Why do you feel you need it? Are you talking about a Sonic Maximizer? Who is the mfgr?

I was curious if steel players are using this also. The Enhancer is a cool ampstand that scoops the sound from the back of an open back cabinet and forces it out a big "horn" focused towards the front. I've seen guitarists using them, and was pretty impressed. It really increases volume and bass responce. Here's a link...

Wow! That's a really cool idea. Kinda pricey for a chunk of carpeted wood, though. I've got $100 for the first guy who can make me a decent copy of this thing for my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

I use an Enhancer with my Music Man 115HD and the difference is significant. My Carter S-12 sounded great before and now is even better. I do a lot of jazz stuff and the bottom side is much improved with the Enhancer. It is a great looking unit with quality construction. You only get what you are willing to pay for.

I did not put this in electronics to begin with because there is nothing electrical about it but it fits here also. I agree that you get what you pay for and I'm sure someone with wood and tools could make a home-made copy but when you pay so much for a steel and a good amp, what's another 3-4 hundred bucks for a professional job that doesn't look like it was built on the tailgate of a ranch truck. I think we all want to look pro as well as sound like one.

I see these things every year at the NAMM Show, and every year I am amazed again at how good they sound. Even a Princeton or a Deluxe sounds fat and beefy with one of these things. Are they pricey for a "carpeted chunk of wood?" Absolutely! But it is a very good product.

I just bought a new Peavey Classic 50 - 212, and with that great sound, I have high expectations for an Enhancer soon! I now have the sound that I had years ago. I'm not going to spoil it with too many effects! I doubt anything more than a reasonable amount of Analog Delay, maybe!
