Peavey Classic Tube Preference?
Has anyone experimented with tube brand choices for the Peavey Classic Series amps?
Thanks

Dennis:
I have a Peavey Classic 30 that I use for steel (practice) and guitar. I love it! It comes with a single 12" speaker and EL84 power tubes, so it sounds very smooth on the "normal" channel, but can get plenty raunchy on the "lead" channel. It also has an effects loop and extension cab output jack. It has plenty o' power, too. I mike it when I play guitar at my church (1,300 seat auditorium). Maybe the only thing better than the Classic 30 would be a Classic 50 with two 12's. Do you get the impression that I love this little amp?

I expect to receive an ebay classic 50/50 tomorrow. Although I'll check it out as-is, I'll probably retube it (probably only one side as I don't expect to need the full mono/bridged 100w too often). After a good experience with their 6L6's and after reading some testimonials, I will try a quad of JJ Tesla EL84's.
Seems like every tube has its advocates and on any given day I can get swayed by what I read. But I liked doing business with Bob at Eurotube and I'll go that way for now. I'll be interested to hear your experiences with whatever tube you end up with (in a 50/50 I presume?)

Hi Jon! I just realized we were probably bidding against each other last week on a 50/50?? I was MrZiffle. I got the 50/50 out of upper N.Y. I just got notice that it was shipped out today. Yes, I've been reading all the testimonials on tubes at different websites. None from steel players, however. Like you, I'll probably retube one side first...and preamp tube. Preamp tube choices being: EH 12AX7 or Sovtek 5751. And 3rd choice Sovtek 12AX7LPS.And the Tesla EL84s.
I like the options available on the 50/50 with bi-amping and/or patching into my session 400s. Should be some extensive experimenting for a while. Let me know what you come up with.
